Every year, many events take place in Flanders. Visit one of the great festivals, sport events or exhibitions. Try different dishes at a culinary event in Antwerp or Ghent or go to Leuven or Brussels for the beer weekend that takes place every year. On the fourteenth Sunday of the year, it’s time to celebrate Vlaanderens Mooiste, also known as ‘The Tour of Flanders’. Do you love design? Capital city Brussels is the place to be in September. The most famous and international event in Flanders is dance festival Tomorrowland with an impressive line-up.

Markets

In Flanders, you’ll find all kinds of markets, like antique markets, book markets, fairs and flea markets. Some markets you can enjoy every week and others are a yearly event. For antiques and brocante you should go to Antwerp and Bruges. In Ghent are some nice flea markets which mainly take place in the weekends. You can find creative and hand-made products at markets in Genk and Antwerp. Combining a stroll across the market with a walk on the beach? Coastal towns like Oostende also have a few nice markets.

Are you looking for a great family vacation at the beach? The Belgium beaches with their shallow waters are excellent for kids. On and around the beach are many activities you can do. Rent a bike or buggy, go horseback riding, sailing or fishing. The coastal town Bredene offers a great number of campsites and in Koksijde – Oostduinkerke there are many bungalow parks located. The Flemish coast is a very nice place to stay with your family!

Stroll through fields or get lost in the woods. Choose over 30 hiking trail networks or start exploring on your own. Follow a monumental route, wander along canals or enjoy an exciting ghost tour through the city of Antwerp. Or head to the coast of Flanders for a walk on the beach.

Bruges
Sights

Flanders has a couple of beautiful historical cities. Especially Bruges and Ghent are well known for that reason. Bruges is famous for its narrow medieval streets, canals and wonderful buildings. The historical center even made it to the UNESCO World Heritage list. Interested in medieval Bruges? Visit Historium Bruges, a historical experience attraction. This one-hour experience with beautiful decor, film, music and special effects leads you back in the past. Another historical city, with many markets and vintage stores, is Ghent. It ought to be one of the most authentic destinations in the world!

Are you a museum fan? Flanders is the place to be! More than 200 museums show art exhibitions, historical remnants and more. Currently, when you visit the Museum of Fine Arts (MSK) in Ghent, you can look at the restoration of the painting “Adoration of the Mystic Lamb”. The panels are being restored behind glass, so you can watch it live! In Leuven you can find art from the Gothic age, the 19th century and modern art in Museum M.

Shopping

In Antwerp shop till you drop becomes reality. The city offers a great combination of nice shopping streets with well-known brands, designer shops and little boutiques. A must see is the city banquet hall from the 19th. This beautiful building is reconstructed as a unique shopping mall with about 40 stores. Just outside the city, there is a big shopping mall called Wijnegem. Here, you can find many famous fashion brands. Of course, Antwerp is also famous because of its diamonds. In the multicultural diamond neighborhood, next to central station, you’ll have a great time window shopping. Also in many Flemish coastal towns, like Oostende, are great shopping possibilities. Knokke accommodates many luxurious shops and in De Haan you’ll find many boutiques.
