Discover what else the ocean of Hawaii has to offer. Try scuba diving or snorkelling with manta rays, it is an extraordinary experience. On Hawaii Island you have the opportunity to watch these large but friendly fishes in their natural habitat. Even larger are the big humpback whales that come to Hawaii to nurse their young. The best place to see these wonderful creatures is in the Auau Channel, between the islands of Maui, Lanai and Molokai. On Maui you dive or snorkel in the remains of a volcano during an excursion to the Molokini crater.

National parks

One of Hawaii’s most impressive national parks is Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Here you can get up close and explore Kilauea. It’s one of the most active volcanos in the world and has been continuously erupting since 1983. The park has some exceptional hiking trails that show lovely flora and fauna and is a World Heritage site. A truly mesmerizing view is found at Haleakala National Park on Maui. Climb to one of its peaks and stand above a sea of clouds. It does take some time to get up to the peak, but it is all worth the walk. At the top of one of the cliffs at Kalaupapa National Historical Park, on Molokai, is a beautiful view overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Hawaii is the ultimate place for surfing and to learn how to surf! There are surf schools all over the islands who are happy to teach you the basics. They take you to the spots where the waves are less strong and calmer. One of these spots is Waikiki Beach in Honolulu. For the more experienced surfers Oahu’s North Shore is recommended. The North Shor is world-famous for its high waves during the winter months. Waimea Bay, Haleiwa Beach and Ehukai Beach are the most popular beaches. Here, everything exudes the relaxed surf atmosphere. Surfers from all over the world come to Oahu because of its immense waves and the surf competitions.

A luau is a traditional Hawaiian feast, to sometimes celebrate a wedding or a birthday. Typical food that is often served there is pork, broiled steak and a variety of salads. Essential to a luau is a lei, a necklace made of flowers and ferns that men and woman wear.
